Why Some People Are Created Differently

Psalm 139:13-16   (God designed everyone…)
13 For you created my inmost being;
you knit me together in my mother's womb.

14
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful,
I know that full well.

15 My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,

16
your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me
were written in your book
before one of them came to be.

Exodus 4:10-11   (…including those of us with disabilities.)

10 Moses said to the LORD, "O Lord, I have never been eloquent, neither in the past nor since you have spoken to your servant.  I am slow of speech and tongue."

11 The LORD said to him, "Who gave man his mouth? Who makes him deaf or mute? Who gives him sight or makes him blind? Is it not I, the LORD ?

John 9:1-3   (Thus disabilities are not punishment, but are to display God’s power…)

1 As he went along, he saw a man blind from birth. 2His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"

3 "Neither this man nor his parents sinned," said Jesus, "but this happened so that the work of God might be displayed in his life."

1 Corinthians 12:21-26   (…and therefore should be treated with honor.)

21 The eye cannot say to the hand, "I don't need you!" And the head cannot say to the feet, "I don't need you!" 22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty, 24 while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has combined the members of the body and has given greater honor to the parts that lacked it, 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other. 26 If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.

1 Peter 4:10   (The way we honor people with disabilities...)

10 Each one should use whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering God's grace in its various forms.

Psalm 82:3-4   (...is to defend their cause, maintain their rights, and rescue them from harm.)

Defend the cause of the weak and fatherless; maintain the rights of the poor and oppressed.  Rescue the weak and needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.

Do People with Severe Intellectual Disabilities Go to Heaven?

Romans 3:22-24   (Everyone, including people with disabilities, has sinned.  Through Jesus Christ we are saved)

22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,  24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

Ephesians 2:8-9   (...by God’s grace, because we cannot save ourselves.)

8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.

Romans 5:8-9   (Though we do not deserve it, Christ died for us…)

8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. 9 Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him!

Romans 8:33-34   (…and is testifying to God on our behalf.)

33 Who will bring any charge against those whom God has chosen? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he that condemns? Christ Jesus, who died—more than that, who was raised to life—is at the right hand of God and is also interceding for us.

John 14:6   (In other words, only Jesus can deliver God's saving grace, which provides the path to heaven.)

6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

1 Corinthians 13:11   (Adults think and reason differently from children.  However, people with severe intellectual disabilities continue to think like little children, unable to put childhood behind them.)

11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.

Mark 10:13-16   (Jesus blesses little children and people like them, thus offering God's grace, saying that heaven is theirs,…)

13 People were bringing little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them. 14 When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. 15 I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it." 16 And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.

Matthew 18:1-6, 10, 14   (…and as the greatest, they set the example for us all.)

1 At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"

2 He called a little child and had him stand among them. 3 And he said: "I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

5 "And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."

10 "See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven."

14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost."
